Objective : The purpose of this study was to inspect the effect of Massotherapy on idiopathic scoliosis patients, utilizing Cobb`s angle to determine the degree of curvature progression in the thoracic and lumbar regions.  Methods : To obtain this result, we examinated 30 case of parents who visit Dept. of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Oriental Medical Hospital. Taejon University. with idiopathic scoliosis. We observe their age, sex, symptoms and Cobb`s angle.  Results : As a result of this examination, we detected the fact that it`s difficult to treat isiopathic scoliosis fundamentally. But, Their symptoms are improved. So it is necessary to treat scoliosis actively with massotherapy .  Conclusion : We want to be put this knowledge to practical use on treating Scoliosis and think the study like this must be go on continuously.

Abstract

Objects : This study was to report a clinical effect of Chuna Treatment for Cervical Myelopathy due to disc herniation. Methods : The patient was diagnosed as Cervical Myelopathy due to disc herniation through Cervical spine MRI and treated by cervical traction technique of Chuna Treatment with conservative management. JOA score(Japanese Orthopedic Association score), Recovery rate of Hirabayashi, VAS(Visual Analogue Scale), Dynamometer score, ROM(Range of Motion) and Motor weakness Grade were used. Results and Conclusion : JOA score, VAS, Dynamometer score, ROM and Motor weakness Grade were improved and Recovery rate was 100%.

Abstract

This study is designed to evaluate the effect of flexion-distraction technique for the patient with thoracic & lumbar disc and scoliosis. After flexion-distraction technique the. results of VAS of lumbago, orthopedics tests, cobb's angle were improved significantly. It is suggested that flexion-distraction technique might be effective for the patient with Thoracic & Lumbar Disc and Scoliosis.

2006년 6월 13일부터 2005년 7월 10일까지 대전대학교 부속 청주한방병원 한방재활과에 입원하였던 교통사고로 인하여 악화된 요통 및 하지 방산통의 임상증상을 보이며 신경학적인 이학검사 및 X-ray 혹은 자기공명영상(MRI)에서 흉요추 추간판 탈출증 및 척추 측만증으로 확진된 환자에게 굴곡신연기법을 병행한 치료법을 시술하여 요통의 호전 및 측만각의 개선 효과를 거두어 이에 보고하는 바이다.

Abstract

Objective : The purpose of the study is to compare the effects and efficacy of both treatments. Methods : 2 groups were divided among 6 patients who admitted to Jeonju Wonkwang hospital attached to Wonkwang University from 2009. jan. 1 to 2009. feb. 28 were diagnosed as herniated lumbar disc by lumbar CT or MRI. Each groups were treated by decompression therapy and chuna traetment daily and were measured under visual analogue scale and ODI score starting from the day of admission, after 1week, and second week to compare the results. Results and Conclusions : Decompression therapy and chuna treatment both showed effects on treating the patients though chuna traetment apparently revealed to be slightly more efficient. Due to the lack of abundant clinical data it was not objective in a strict sense but it was clinically meaningful enough.

Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the sense of improvement and satisfaction from 7 cases of herniated lumbar disc patients which was treated with spine decompression&chuna. Methods: Each patient has been treated with spine decompression and chuna treatment. The degree of improvement has been evaluated by VAS(Visual Analogue Scale) and ODI(Oswestry Disability Index) score starting from the day of admission, after 1week, and 2weeks. Results and Conclusions: Through the result, spine decompression and chuna treatment proved to have valid effect for Herniated Lumbar Disc. and there needs more clinical studies into synergy between spine decompression and Chuna treatment.

Abstract

The study reports the clinical case of a patient with lower extremity weakness and gait disturbance treated with Korean medicine treatments including Chuna therapy. The patient suffered lower extremity weakness and gait disturbance with diagnosis of lumbar disk herniation and spinal stenosis. As a treatment, the doctor applied Chuna therapy, herbal medicine, acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, cupping and moxa. The effect of treatment was evaluated by numeral rating scale (NRS), self-walkable distance, functional independence measure (FIM), Oswestry disability index (ODI) and manual muscle test (MMT). NRS decreased from 6 to 4 at the leg. Self-walkable distance increased from 0 m to 10 m, FIM increased 85 to 96 points while ODI decreased 64% to 54%. MMT of hip flex and knee extension improved from grade 3+, grade 3 to grade 4, respectively. Korean medicine treatment can be effective for patients who suffer lower extremity weakness and gait disturbance due to lumbar disk herniation and spinal stenosis. Further clinical studies are required to verify these findings.

Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to estimate, in the patients with spondylolisthesis, the relationships between the improvement of symptom and the number of Chuna treatment, between the improvement of symptom and additional complications(herniated intervertebral disc, stenosis), and between the improvement of symptom and the level of spondylolisthesis.

Methods: We investigated the 40 cases of outpatients who were diagnosed as the spondylolisthesis on X-ray, lumbar C.T.(computerized tomography) or MRI(magnetic resonance imaging) and were treated more than one time with chuna treatment in Jaseng Oriental Medicine Hospital from June 12, 2000 to June 17, 2000. The patients were mainly treated with Chuna therapy and Chuna medicine therapy, in addition to being respectively, applicably treated in accordance with patient’s symptoms with acupuncture and moxibustion therapy, oriental physical therapy, exercise therapy, etc. We evaluated the symptoms by four grade of poor, fair, good and excellent.

Results and Conclusions: The improvement of symptom was relative to the number of Chuna treatment and in the case of additional complications(herniated intervertebral disc, stenosis) the improvement of symptom was fair, and spondylolisthesis L4 on L5 was better than spondylolisthesis L5 on S1 in the improvement of symptom.

Abstract

Objective: This study was designed to evaluate the effect of Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture therapy in patients with Cervical Herniated Intervertebral Disc Methods: We investigated 30 cases of patients with Cervical Herniated Intervertebral Disc, who had been treated from October 2008 to December 2011. We divided patients into two groups: Group I was treated by Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture therapy and general acupuncture and Group II was treated by acupuncture therapy only. We measured the efficacy of treatments using the numerical rating scale(NRS). Results: 1. The treatment method for Group I was more effective than that of Group II in reducing the NRS on the tenth day after admission but there was no statistically significant difference between the results of two groups on the fifth day after admission and the tenth day after admission. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture therapy is effective in reducing pain for patients with Cervical Herniated Intervertebral Disc. Further clinical research is needed to verify these results and findings.

The aim of this study is to estimate clinical outcome of Conservative treatment for patients with Herniated Intervertebral Disc(HIVD) of lumbar spine. We investigated the 33 cases of Inpatients who were diagnosed as the HIVD of L-Spine and were treated Acupuncture therapy, Herb-medicine, Bee-vom treatment in Oriental Medicine Hospital from March 1, 2005 to November 31, 2005. We evaluated the subjective symptoms by Visual Analogue Scale, Hudgin's classification and follow-up of Activity Daily Living status. The improvement index showed that the oriental medical conservative therapy improved the symptom of HIVD effectively.
